 An Exhibition by Michelle Cangiano
August 9 - September 1, 2007
New: Nature is an important point of reference in this new work. My observations are first documented as line drawings, then as cut-out paper shapes before being constructed into wearable forms. This process of making governs the outcomes, where the finished piece hints at a memory of its origin.
Used: Donated and found materials such as buffalo horn, charcoal, Huon pine, gold jewellery and wooden beads are combined with the new to produce this series.
Fused: Applied to some of these pieces is the ancient and (to me) mysterious technique of fusing, where high heat is used to bond metals together.
– Michelle Cangiano, July 2007
