A Creative Collaboration: Designing the New Russell Place Gallery

A New Chapter: Reinventing Our Russell Place Gallery

A story by Pieces of Eight Director Melanie Katsalidis:

When we decided to move back to our iconic Russell Place gallery, it felt incredibly significant. This wasn't just a relocation; it was a homecoming for Pieces of Eight, perfectly timed with our 20th anniversary. The original space, designed in 2015, by my father, architect Nonda Katsalidis, holds so much history for us. To mark this new chapter, we needed a design partner who understood our brand's soul, a blend of art, design, and exceptional craftsmanship.

That's where my friend and talented interior architect, Adele Winteridge of Foolscap Studio, came in. Working with Adele and her team felt like a natural collaboration, a meeting of minds built on mutual respect for creativity and design excellence. It's truly a special thing when female founders can come together to support each other and bring a shared vision to life.

Elevating the Experience

The goal for the new fit-out was simple: to honour the original architectural vision while elevating the customer experience. The space needed to be more open and adaptable, perfectly suited for the intimate and personalised service that has become synonymous with Pieces of Eight.

Adele's design has created a more flexible gallery floor, allowing us to offer private bespoke consultations in a dedicated and luxurious environment. This gives clients a space where they can truly collaborate on their one-of-a-kind creations. The versatile space will also serve as a sophisticated venue for future exhibitions and exclusive events, solidifying our role as a cultural hub in Melbourne.

Honouring the Past, Designing the Future

Working with Adele was a seamless process. She has a deep understanding of how to shape an environment that feels both welcoming and sophisticated. Together, we’ve crafted an interior that celebrates our journey while looking ahead to the next 20 years. The iconic round steel front window remains a bold statement on the street, a long-standing beacon for design-savvy Melburnians. It’s a setting where art, design, and personal connection can truly thrive.

We're so excited for you to experience our new gallery in person. It’s a testament to the power of creative collaboration and the strength of female founders working together. We can't wait to welcome you back home.
