Julia Storey: Enjoying a Slower Pace as a New Mum

Julia Storey's modern collection of jewellery is organic inspired, and grounded by foundations of excellence in craftspersonship. She delights in unexpected combinations of colourful sapphires and gemstones, or pairing lustrous keshi and freshwater pearls with subtle coloured gems. A talented Melbourne maker, she also crafts handmade classic diamond engagement and wedding rings with modern, textural details. We recently asked Julia to reflect on what motherhood means to her, and how it has transformed her.

"Motherhood is an amazing, all encompassing experience. It is rich, fulfilling and at the same time it can be exhausting and overwhelming. Every day is rich with rewards - just seeing the way my son grows with ability and personality is so incredible. I love our park adventures together and watching him develop new fascinations daily.

There’s a slower pace and a different mindset that comes with spending a day following a small child’s lead, versus my days in the studio where I’m trying to make the most of each minute. It’s definitely a contrast, but I’m learning to enjoy balancing my jewellery practice with the (never ending) logistics of looking after my new little buddy."
