Nina Oikawa
My jewellery is an occurrence as a result of my experimentation with seeking a form of eccentric beauty. Plants, colours, seasons and historic jewellery often give me inspiration to construct my playful imaginings. My curiosity towards materials helps me discover interesting phenomena. Balance and forms that appear dramatic, visual eccentricity - this is what I am attempting to create in my jewellery construction.
Nina Oikawa explores forms and styles that are influenced by modern and traditional playful techniques and ideas. The Tokyo-born, Melbourne-based jeweller completed a Doctorate of Fine Art in Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT University in 2011. She is a qualified gemmologist and valuer certified by the National Council of Jewellery Valuers.
Nina's work has been exhibited in several countries and has featured extensively across print and online publications including Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue Australia. Her jewellery is stocked in Australia, the USA and Japan.
